Don't Make Employees
Alter Their Lives For You
by Tom Egelhoff
Many small businesses feel that the employees owe them what ever hours they ask for. Their attitude is that if they want the job they will do what is necessary. Keep in mind that employees spend almost 1/3 or their week with you. The only time they have to plan lives is in the time off that you schedule for them. Don't expect them to alter their plans at the last minute just because you have an emergency.
Plan ahead and if you need to schedule overtime then do it well in advance so people can still plan their lives. They will be and you will have a much more productive employee.
